Sustainable partnership

A Belgian producer of chemicals imports specialized raw materials from the US and has to pay import duties for these materials. The company repeatedly tried to gain exemption of import duties, but to no avail. They then asked us to offer consultancy on the subject.

Together with our client, we looked at possible producers of the imported product in the EU and countries who have a preferential trade regime with the EU. Next, we contacted our direct relations at the Belgian administration to discuss our case. Together with our client, we were then able to prove that the imported product is not – and will not be – produced in the EU, given the specific characteristics and the minimal quantity that is purchased.

“TCL is not just a supplier or service provider. We want to build sustainable partnerships with our clients, so we can offer them the right consultancy at the right time.”

Based on the supporting documents, the council in which all EU countries are represented judged that this product is allowed a suspension of import duties for a period of three years, tacitly renewed for another three years as long as basic conditions remain unchanged. Thanks to joint efforts, we were able to convince authorities to suspend the import duties.

Please feel free to get in contact if we can be of any assistance?
